It's the 1980s in a small town in California and a group of amateur surfers are living the beach life. Bodhi, Jordy, Zuma, and Skylar spend their days riding waves and partying. However, they soon grow bored of the same old routine. Seeking adventure, they decide to enter an upcoming underground surf competition called Cowabunga being held by a mysterious surf gang.Arriving at the secluded beach location, they are stunned to find the most epic waves they've ever seen, but the territorial locals don't take kindly to the outsiders. Led by the ruthless surfer Kane, they intimidate the crew and bully them out of the water. But Bodhi rallies his friends to stand their ground, leading to a surf off against Kane to decide who gets to stay.After a brutal war of wipeouts and wave hijackings, it comes down to Bodhi and Kane on one last towering wave. In a moment of unity with nature, Bodhi rides the barrel flawlessly while Kane wipes out hard. Impressed by his skill, the locals accept Bodhi and friends, everyone celebrating the spirit of surfing that brought them together despite their differences. With new friends and surf spots, the adventures are just beginning for the crew.
