When veteran secret agent James Bond comes out of retirement to investigate the mysterious disappearance of several nuclear submarines, he uncovers a sinister plot by a wealthy Greek industrialist named Aristotle Kristatos. Kristatos is secretly collaborating with the KGB to steal the subs in order to provoke war between the superpowers.Aiding Bond is the beautiful Melina Havelock, whose parents - marine archaeologists - were murdered by Kristatos' henchmen. Bond and Melina team up to find the missing subs before Kristatos can put his dangerous plan into action. Their globe-trotting mission takes them from the depths of the Mediterranean to the snowy peaks of Northern Italy, with Kristatos' ruthless henchman Locque in hot pursuit.Along the way, Bond rekindles an old flame with smuggler Columbo’s crew member Countess Lisl von Schlaf - a relationship Kristatos tries to use against 007. In a gripping mountaintop showdown, Bond defeats Locque while Melina gets vengeance for her parents. They then confront Kristatos on his own submarine, where he holds the world to ransom before Bond sends him to a watery grave, saving the superpowers from the brink of annihilation.
